Sunnyside Sampler

It was common in the 19th century to make blocks for a teacher or pastor that was leaving the area as a group. The individual blocks were then assembled in a quilt and presented to the recipient. This quilt is a close reproduction of such a quilt made in 1894 by the Sunnyside schoolchildren for their teacher. The complexity of the quilt is due t the many different blocks. It is actually quite easy to make. The simple pieced blocks complement the applique done in folk art style.
